I wish to seek foreignity in both cities. This is problematic in Norwich, a city I have lived in for years and photographed extensively. Graham Clarke talks about the vantage point in Alfred Stieglitz’s photographs of New York as having a de-humanising affect. I have begun scaling buildings in order to find a perspective from which I can see Norwich with unfamiliar eyes. At street-level I find myself afraid to take images in case they have been made before, worry that I will create an image which is too heavily rooted in Norwich or Britain. From this higher view I have more information to read, it becomes more confusing the city becomes strange.
